The Tennessee Vols earned a hard fought 36-23 win against the Vanderbilt Commodores on Saturday afternoon in Nashville.

Vanderbilt jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first five minutes of the game, but the Vols were able to keep their composure despite the early deficit and they were ultimately able to put the game away in the second half.

Tennessee essentially locked up a spot in the 12-team College Football Playoff with the win.

After the game, Vanderbilt head coach Clark Lea met Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel at midfield. WBIR's Camille Gear was nearby to pick up what Lea said to Heupel.

"Great battle, man," said Lea. "Congrats, good luck in the playoffs."

Vanderbilt was on the losing side of the scoreboard on Saturday, but they played with great effort and intensity for 60 minutes. Even after the Vols took control of the game, the Commodores kept fighting and didn't just roll over. That's a testament to the incredible job that Lea has done in Nashville.

Tennessee will now turn their full attention the College Football Playoff rankings to see who (and where) they'll be playing in December in the first round of the playoffs.
