The Jacksonville Jaguars came up just short in Week 13 against their AFC South rivals, the Houston Texans.
The biggest story from the game, though, has nothing to do with the final score but the play that sent Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence into the NFL's concussion protocol.
A new report from ESPN's Adam Schefter lets the world know that justice will be served against Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair.
The hit that took Trevor Lawrence out of Week 13 is expected to result in a suspension for Texans LB Azeez Al-Shaair
At this point, I don't think there's an argument against Al-Shaair's hit on Lawrence being dirty. I'd be shocked if anyone rebuts the league's pursuit of further punishment because although he was ejected from the game, that doesn't seem like nearly enough.
The league has done a lot of work to take these kind of hits out of football. There is simply no place for it in today's game. Lawrence is entering this week in the NFL's concussion protocol and likely has an uphill battle to be ready to play in Week 14 against the Tennessee Titans. So, with Lawrence likely missing time, it honestly wouldn't feel right if Al-Shaair was able to be out there playing for the Texans in Week 14. The only bright side of the situation is that Lawrence seems to be in good spirits with him responding on social media to all the positive messages he's received since the hit.
We will have to wait and see how severe a suspension this will be. But it is good to hear Schefter report that it's not a question of if he will be suspended but how long he will be. The play may have cost the Jaguars the chance to pull off the upset in Week 12, and the league needs to treat it seriously to prevent plays like this from happening anywhere else across the league in the future.
