The San Francisco 49ers already knew they would be without both Brock Purdy and Nick Bosa for the Week 12 clash with the Green Bay Packers. An hour and a half before kickoff, they confirmed they will also be without All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams.
It was reported earlier in the day that the 49ers were "optimistic" about Williams playing in the Week 12 matchup.
But Williams' pregame tests of his troublesome ankle injury obviously did not go well, as he was also listed among the inactives for a crucial clash for their seemingly dwindling playoff hopes.
The 11-time Pro Bowler battled through the injury in last week's defeat to the Seattle Seahawks, but swing tackle Jaylon Moore will deputize this week in his absence.
San Francisco prevailed in the Divisional Round of last season's playoffs against the Packers thanks to a fourth-quarter comeback. The 49ers also beat Green Bay in the postseason after the 2021 campaign at Lambeau Field.
However, the 49ers have not won a regular-season matchup over the Packers since 2012. Their last regular-season win on the road in Green Bay came in 2012.
With Williams reduced to the role of spectator, the 49ers' chances of ending their wait for a regular-season win over the Packers look to be much slimmer.
