The Houston Texans received the worst possible news about one of their key offensive playmakers on Tuesday.
Per multiple reports, wide receiver Stefon Diggs is out for the season after tearing his ACL in Sunday's win over the Indianapolis Colts.
'Unfortunately, he tore his ACL. He'll be out for the year. It really hurts our team to hear that news,' Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans said (via KPRC's Aaron Wilson).
Diggs was traded to the Texans back in April, and Houston restructured his four-year contract extension from the Bills into a one-year, $22.52 million deal.
He is now set to become a free agent once the 2024 season is over.
Diggs went down with the knee injury in the third quarter of the game. Now the Texans are without Diggs and Nico Collins, who they placed on injured reserve earlier this year.
In eight games with Houston, Diggs finishes the season with 47 receptions on 64 targets for 496 total yards and three touchdowns.
The exact terms of the trade were the Texans got Diggs, a 2024 sixth-round pick, and a 2025 fifth-round pick for a 2025 second-round pick being sent to the Bills.
Without Diggs, the Texans have Tank Dell, John Metchie III, Robert Woods, Stevenson Sims, and Xavier Hutchinson on the 53-man roster, along with Johnny Johnson III, Xavier Johnson, and Jared Wayne on the practice squad.
