Former Georgia Bulldogs defensive lineman David Pollack made some comments about the Tennessee Vols this week that probably won't sit well with UGA head coach Kirby Smart.

During an interview with NFL draft analyst Todd McShay on The Todd McShay Show, Pollack said that Tennessee's defensive line reminds him of Georgia's elite defensive line from 2022.

Pollack also suggested that Tennessee's defensive line depth is better than Georgia's was a couple of years ago.

"I think the thing about Tennessee is I think Tennessee's box is so elite defensively," said Pollack. "It reminds me of Georgia a couple of years ago. And it might not be the upper-echelon player, but the depth is better. So many guys along that defensive line that they're rotating in and they're not just space eaters. And they're not just big clotters. They're twitchy guys that penetrate, make plays — it's like hockey shifts. And they rotate in. And I think we've seen, they've been shut out the last three games at the half, Tennessee's offense. And Tennessee's team, in every game, they're very much in it. And it's because they're so dang good on the defensive side of the football."

That's a nice compliment from Pollack. And he's correct that Tennessee's defensive line (and defense in general) is playing at an extremely high level.

But you know it's going to eat away at Smart that Pollack compared this Tennessee team to one of the best teams he's had at Georgia. It's going to annoy the hell out of Smart that a former Georgia player said that the Vols have better defensive line depth than the Bulldogs.

Smart loves to use stuff like this as motivation for his team. And I'm sure he won't pass on the chance to use this as bulletin board material when the Vols visit Athens later this year.

Who knows, maybe Pollack was doing Smart a favor on purpose here. Maybe he's throwing some rat poison out there in the hopes that Tennessee will take the bait and that Smart will use it to get his team even more fired up for what should be an important late-season showdown against the Volunteers.
