The San Francisco 49ers received a double boost in Thursday's practice ahead of their Week 8 matchup with the Dallas Cowboys.

Having missed Wednesday's opening session of the week, both Deebo Samuel and George Kittle were back on the field in a limited capacity.

Samuel's return is the more surprising of the two given he was only discharged from hospital on Tuesday having been admitted on Sunday with pneumonia.

Kittle was listed as day to day with a foot sprain to start the week, but both he and Samuel appear in line to play in the rivalry game, with their participation particularly key following the season-ending knee injury suffered by Brandon Aiyuk.

However, the 49ers' surprise leading receiver, Jauan Jennings, appears set to miss a second straight game because of the hip injury that kept him out of last Sunday's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

With Aiyuk and likely Jennings out, rookies Ricky Pearsall and Jacob Cowing should see a high number of snaps, the former having unexpectedly featured on the bulk of the 49ers' offensive plays against Kansas City because of the injury to Aiyuk and Samuel's illness.

On the defensive side of the ball, the 49ers may have to prepare to be without defensive tackle Kevin Givens, who again missed practice with a groin injury.

The 49ers promoted defensive tackle Evan Anderson to fill the void on the active roster after Aiyuk was placed on injured reserve, giving them more depth on the interior of the D-Line. San Francisco also signed Nesta Jade Silvera, formerly of the Las Vegas Raiders, to the practice squad on Thursday.
