The Buffalo Bills offense has the ability, and the desire, to do what works until you can prove that you can stop it. This is especially true on the ground. At multiple times this season, offensive coordinator Joe Brady has been more than willing to pound the rock, something that the offense seems to rally around as a tone-setter.
Going against the Dolphins this weekend, Miami looks to have a couple key injuries that will further weaken their defense up the middle. Safety Jevon Holland and defensive tackle Zach Sieler are both set to miss the game.
Holland has the third-highest run defense grade on the Dolphins, according to PFF. His 20 tackles is fourth-most on the team, and he has a forced fumble on his resume this season as well. Holland, a bigger, more physical safety, is at his best in run support. Without him, the secondary's ability to tackle takes a big blow.
Add Holland and Seiler to a list of defenders set to miss this game that already includes Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips, and the Dolphins defense is certainly depleted.
If I'm Joe Brady, I'm running the ball right at them while keeping the defense off-balance with quick, lateral passes as they work to establish the line of scrimmage early.
This has the potential to be a big James Cook game yet again. Cook, fresh off his first 100+ rushing yards and 2+ rushing touchdowns game of his career, will have the opportunity to set a physical and explosive tone early in this one like he did last weekend against Seattle. Add in rookie Ray Davis to spell Cook, and an offensive line that likes playing nasty and acting as people movers, and Buffalo can assert their dominance early in this one.
