The Kansas City Chiefs completed their second (and most intensive) practice session ahead of their Week 9 game on "Monday Night Football" against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Ahead of practice on Friday, Chiefs public relations announced that WR JuJu Smith-Schuster would be absent again due to his hamstring injury. Nazeeh Johnson and Ethan Driskell returned to practice after missing the first session of the week on Thursday.
Smith-Schuster will likely miss Week 9 due to his injury. Johnson seems to be trending in the right direction and still has a few more days to pass the league's return-to-participation protocols for a concussion.
While a few players saw their status upgraded on Friday, there was one new addition to the injury report.
Here's a look at the second injury report of the week. . .
Second Chiefs Injury Report
| Player | Injury | Thursday | Friday |
|---|---|---|---|
OT Ethan Driskell | Illness | DNP | FP |
CB Nazeeh Johnson | Concussion | DNP | LP |
WR JuJu Smith-Schuster | Hamstring | DNP | DNP |
DE Mike Danna | Pec | LP | LP |
RB Kareem Hunt | Quad | LP | FP |
WR Mecole Hardman | Knee | FP | FP |
QB Patrick Mahomes | Ankle | FP | FP |
CB Trent McDuffie | Knee | FP | FP |
DT Derrick Nnadi | Triceps | FP | FP |
LB Drue Tranquill | Chest | FP | FP |
TE Jared Wiley | Knee | — | LP |
KEY: DNP = Did not participate | LP = Limited participation | FP = Full participation | NIR = Not injury related
Observations:
- Nazeeh Johnson turned in a limited practice on Friday. That gives him a pretty good chance of clearing the concussion protocol for Monday.
- Kareem Hunt was upgraded to a full participant in practice.
- Chiefs rookie TE Jared Wiley is the latest addition to the injury report with a knee injury. He turned in a limited practice session. He was not listed on the Thursday injury report, but he was listed on the injury report all of last week with an Achilles injury. Kansas City already lost Jody Fortson for the season, and this injury could make a Peyton Hendershot practice squad elevation necessary for Week 9.
Second Buccaneers Injury Report
| Player | Injury | Thursday | Friday |
|---|---|---|---|
G Ben Bredeson | Shoulder | LP | LP |
LB Lavonte David | Ankle/Chest | DNP | DNP |
LS Evan Deckers (IR) | Hamstring | FP | FP |
WR Mike Evans | Hamstring | DNP | DNP |
NT Greg Gaines | Calf | DNP | DNP |
DL William Gholston | Knee | LP | LP |
RB Bucky Irving | Toe | DNP | DNP |
WR Sterling Shepard | Hamstring | DNP | DNP |
S Tykee Smith | Concussion | LP | FP |
S Antoine Winfield Jr. | Foot | — | LP |
KEY: DNP = Did not participate | LP = Limited participation | FP = Full participation | NIR = Not injury related
Observations:
- The Chiefs weren't the only team with a midweek addition to the injury report. Bucs S Antoine Winfield Jr. was added with a foot injury and listed as a limited participant. That'd be a major loss for the Tampa secondary.
