The Dallas Cowboys are getting reinforcements ahead of their Week 9 showdown against the Atlanta Falcons and they're getting them from their practice squad.
As it's done weekly, the Cowboys announced their practice squad elevations on Saturday ahead of the game. Unsurprisingly, running back Dalvin Cook is being called up for Sunday.
Cook made his debut as a Cowboys player in Santa Clara last week as the coaching staff continues to search for a spark for a non-existent running game. The veteran back rushed six times for 12 yards in another lackluster outing by the entire offense.
Beyond this weekend, Cook can be called up from the practice squad one more time before the Cowboys have to sign him to the 53-man roster. With Rico Dowdle coming back after missing last week's showdown with a short-lived illness, there are questions about Ezekiel Elliott's status on Sunday.
Cornerback help suggests Trevon Diggs might not play vs. Falcons
It won't be official until inactives come out 90 minutes before gametime and he's officially listed as questionable with a calf injury but Trevon Diggs' chances of playing are not looking good based on the fact that the Cowboys are elevating cornerback Josh Butler from the practice squad.
If Diggs was trending to play, the Cowboys could've gotten away with not elevating a defensive back for Sunday, as they're trending to get fifth-round rookie Caelen Carson back after fully practicing for the entire week. Even with DaRon Bland ruled out, it would've appeared they were set at cornerback numbers wise.
Instead, by elevating Butler, it's looking like there's a very real shot Diggs misses the game, which would leave the Cowboys seriously shorthanded against Atlanta.
