Tennessee Vols fans received a bit of a scare this past weekend when one of the program's top 2025 commits, four-star safety Lagonza Hayward, took a visit to Athens for the Georgia Bulldogs' matchup against the Auburn Tigers.
Hayward told On3 after his visit that he's excited about the opportunity at Georgia.
“The opportunity does excite me because Kirby (Smart) knows ball and T-Rob (Travaris Robinson) will develop me to be the best safety I can possibly be," said Hayward. "And Kirby is a prestigious coach. He’s coached some great players.”
On3's Chad Simmons provided an update on Hayward's recruitment on Tuesday and it sounds like Vols fans shouldn't be quite as concerned as we thought.
Simmons noted that the "signs" point to Hayward being "solid" with Tennessee.
"There has not been much buzz around Hayward and the Bulldogs, and although he visited, signs still point toward him being strong with the Vols," wrote Simmons.
The four-star safety is expected to be in Knoxville this weekend for Tennessee's matchup against the Florida Gators.
Hayward, 6-foot-1/200 lbs from Lyons, GA, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 6 safety in the nation and the No. 11 player in the state of Georgia. He's also rated as the No. 83 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class.
