The Minnesota Vikings are in a great spot heading into week five. They are sitting at 4-0 this season and have reached the top spot in the latest power rankings. The biggest factor for the Vikings' hot start has been the defense.
They have sacked the quarterback a whopping 17 times this season which leads the National Football League and have forced 10 turnovers which ranks second in the NFL. They have been dominant and the underlying metrics fully agree with that statement.
They don't just lead the NFL in sacks, they hold the top spot in a very important category.
Vikings lead NFL in pressures
Sacks are a 100th percentile outcome when it comes to a pressure. That is how you would prefer every pressure to end, but it's often just a disruption of the quarterback. The more you have the better off you are as a defense.
Well, the Vikings also are tied for the league lead in pressures with 94 on the season, tying them with the Detroit Lions.
The Vikings have gotten pressure from a variety of sources but their best pass rushing weapon is Jonathan Greenard. He has a whopping 22 pressures this season which is tied for third in the NFL according to PFF. Jihad Ward (12), Pat Jones II (11) and Andrew Van Ginkel (11) are the other Vikings with double digit pressures. In totality, there are 14 Vikings this season who have registered a pressure.
An impressive start to the season for the Vikings defense that is showing no signs of stopping.
