When it comes to the NFL Draft, Minnesota Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah doesn't have the best track record.
When you look at Adofo-Mensah's draft classes, there aren't many contributors on the current 2024 roster. The biggest one of those is wide receiver Jordan Addison and multiple players are currently on injured reserve in quarterback J.J. McCarthy, cornerback Mekhi Blackmon and kicker Will Reichard.
As we move forward throughout the National Football League season, mock drafts are a good tool to keep an eye on throughout to see what college prospects will be matched up with the Vikings.
Vikings project to take injured CB in latest NFL mock draft
There are a couple of positions that need to be a focus this offseason: cornerback and defensive line. Our own Destin Adams at A to Z Sports released a mock draft and has the Vikings selecting East Carolina cornerback Shavon Revel Jr.
Another CB who probably heard his name called earlier, if not for suffering a season-ending injury, is Shavon Revel Jr. The Vikings put a temporary band-aid on their CB issue by signing veteran Stephon Gilmore, but they need to find a more long-term option this offseason. Revel Jr. out of East Carolina could be just what the doctor ordered for Brian Flores' secondary.
Revel is an excellent prospect when you look at his talent. He can do everything you want in a cornerback prospect, but there is one catch: Revel tore his ACL last month and won't be able to test.
The last time that the Vikings took a cornerback with an injury history it was Andrew Booth Jr. He barely played over the last two years after coming in with a sports hernia he got fixed that prevented him from testing and a patella injury he suffered in high school. Booth also suffered a meniscus injury that required season-ending surgery as a rookie.
The Vikings ended up trading Booth to the Dallas Cowboys during training camp for Nahshon Wright, who is now on the practice squad. The Cowboys cut Booth earlier on Tuesday after the acquired Jonathan Mingo from the Carolina Panthers.
If the Vikings were to select Revel, it would be a tremendous value pick, as he was viewed as a potential top-10 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft before the injury. Because he suffered the injury so early during the college football season, Revel is likely going to be ready for training camp, which would allow him to play right away.
It's a tough one for Vikings fans. They would be getting a really talented player at a discount, but is it worth it for the injury risk? That is up to you to decide, but the talent is there.
