Tennessee Vols basketball coach Rick Barnes showed up in Memphis on Wednesday night to support former UT guard Dalton Knecht in his first career start for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Knecht, who was selected by the Lakers with the No. 17 overall selection in the 2024 NBA Draft, received the start on Tuesday night with Anthony Davis and Rui Hachimura sidelined for Los Angeles.

Knecht played 27 minutes on Wednesday night in the Lakers' 131-114 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.

The former Vol scored three points on 1-of-7 shooting to go along with four rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Knecht is averaging 6.8 points per game through the first eight games of his NBA career.

Barnes sat courtside for the matchup between the Lakers and the Grizzlies.

Knecht told reporters before the game that he keeps in touch with Barnes and his former teammates via phone calls and texts.

Vol for life isn't a phrase that's thrown around casually at Tennessee — those words mean something on Rocky Top.
