Minnesota Vikings legendary defensive end Jared Allen has been named a semifinalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
This isn't new to Allen, as he's been eligible for the last five seasons. In each of those, Allen was also named a semifinalist. He's also been a finalist multiple times but has barely missed the cut.
This year, there is a lot of competition for the 4-8 spots in the modern era category. The likes of quarterback Eli Manning, linebacker Luke Kuechly, wide receiver Steve Smith, kicker Adam Vinatieri and wide receiver Torry Holt are among the 25 candidates for the Hall of Fame.
Allen has an excellent case. He ranks 12th all-time in sacks with 136.0 and fourth in sacks per game at 0.727. A first-team All Pro four times, Allen nearly broke the NFL record for sacks in a single season in 2011 with 22.0.
On the other end of the spectrum, star defensive lineman Kevin Williams didn't make the semifinalist list. It's honestly a travesty, as he is a six-time Pro Bowler and five-time All Pro while being a member of the Hall of Fame all decade team in the 2000s. Williams finished his career with 63.0 sacks, including a remarkable 22.0 in his first two seasons in the National Football League.
One day, both of these men should get in, but it's taking longer than it should for both.
