The adventures of Buffalo Bills' kicker Tyler Bass, which have been quiet for the last couple weeks, decided to pick back up on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins. In what ended up being a heavily-fought AFC East battle, Bass made the game an adventure.
Bass missed an extra point early in the game, then doinked one off the left upright on an extra point later in the game that fortunately skipped in. Needing it most, after the defense allowed a late touchdown to the Dolphins to tie it, Bass stepped up for a game-winning field goal from 61 yards out. He didn't miss.
It was a massive moment for Bass, who has struggled with confidence in the past. Being able to drive one through from that distance to win the game, you have to imagine that it was a huge boost to his morale.
"So, so happy for him," quarterback Josh Allen said after the game. "I got emotional in my little post-game speech out there. Just the trials and tribulations that he's been through this year, obviously missing one early in the day, hitting the pole. Another, you know, he could easily put it in the tank, and a 61-yard field goal to win a game against a division rival, it's what stories are made of. And I love him. I respect him so much. Everybody in that locker room is so happy for him. And he's our guy."
Division games are rarely easy, especially the second time that you square off in a season. The Bills have now swept the season series against Miami, are 7-2, and are in the driver's seat for a march to the postseason. Next up is a road matchup with the struggling Indianapolis Colts next Sunday before returning home to face the Kansas City Chiefs, which will have certainly have implications on the No. 1 seed in the AFC as the playoff race takes shape.
