The NFL has fined wide receiver Puka Nacua $5,424 for unnecessary roughness during the Los Angeles Rams' Week 9 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Following an interception thrown by quarterback Matthew Stafford on a pass intended for Nacua late in the second quarter, Seahawks cornerback Coby Bryant began to block Nacua on the interception return. Bryant didn't seem to realize that his fellow cornerback Riq Woolen, who made the interception, was ruled down by contact.

Nacua took exception to Bryant making contact with him, proceeding to throw a punch at Bryant. Nacua was flagged and ejected from the game for the incident. Now, his pocketbook is a little bit lighter after getting fined. Fortunately for Nacua and the Rams, Los Angeles won the game in overtime.

It's probably safe to say that this was a big misunderstanding by both Nacua and Bryant. Had Bryant realized that Woolen was ruled down by contact, he likely wouldn't have tried to block Nacua for no reason. Likewise, had Nacua known Bryant was confused, he would not have thrown a punch towards him.

It's a lesson learned for Nacua, who in all likelihood won't find himself in this situation again. He'll put this incident behind him and move on as the Rams host the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football to conclude Week 10. The 4-4 Rams trail the Arizona Cardinals by just a half game for first place in the tightly contested NFC West. The 4-4 San Francisco 49ers and 4-5 Seahawks are also closely lurking.
