The Kansas City Chiefs notched a 16-14 win over the Denver Broncos in Week 10 of the 2024 NFL season. The game-winning play by third-year LB Leo Chenal in the final second drew a perfect response from head coach Andy Reid.
"I'm getting way too old for this, man," Reid joked as he addressed the team in the locker room after the game.
It's a quip from the 66-year-old coach that most of Chiefs Kingdom can probably relate to. They'd much rather like to see some blowout victories. Instead, they get to watch their team get every team's best shot, week after week, with games coming down to the wire. And it's rather stressful in its theatrics, as fun as it may be on the other side of it.
Alas, there were plenty of reasons to celebrate after their latest win.
Reid told reporters after the game that he didn't have a chance to look at a replay of the game-winning blocked field goal yet. The video the Chiefs shared from his postgame locker room speech confirmed that. He didn't even know which player had blocked the field goal at first.
"Listen, great job of sticking with it," Reid continued. "Leo (Chenal), George (Karlaftis), whoever it was. . ."
He was met with chants of "Leo" throughout the team's locker room, confirming that the third-year linebacker had made the play. Chenal would just as quickly credit George Karlaftis, Mike Danna, Mike Pennel, Justin Reid, Joshua Williams, and all of his fellow special teamers.
"Alright, Superman," Reid joked. "Alright, guys, nice job. . ."
After going through the typical hoopla of what to expect with the schedule next week, Reid capped it off in a way that only he could.
"I'm proud of you guys for just hanging with it," Reid said. "And Leo, I'll treat you to a cheeseburger."
You know you've done something right if you get a celebratory cheeseburger with Big Red. Chenal will surely cash in on that one and maybe have a glass of milk to wash it down, too.
