The Minnesota Vikings have finalized their initial 53-man roster and it came with a few surprises. There are only two running backs on the roster with a fullback and three of their six defensive linemen are rookies drafted in round seven or undrafted free agents.
It also saw the Vikings move on from safety Lweis Cine, the Vikings first round pick in 2022 and the first selection that general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah made in the position. Now that the Vikings have made their decisions regarding the initial 53-man roster, waivers will run at 11:00 a.m. CT and they will focus on the practice squad.
NFL practice squad rules
The Vikings can construct their practice squad with players of varying experience. Here is who they can add.
- Players who do not have an accrued season (I.E. rookies).
- Players who were on the active roster for fewer than nine regular-season games during their only accrued season(s).
- Up to four players per team with no more than two accrued seasons.
- Up to six players per team with no accrued season limitations (I.E. vested veterans).
Each player on the practice squad will receive a minimum salary of $12,500 if you have less than two accrued seasons and $16,800 if they have at least two. The maximum salary per week is $21,300 for a maximum salary of $362,100.
Predicting the practice squad
I predicted the practice squad ahead of the Vikings' final preseason game. Three of the players on the list made the final 53-man roster, so we will update DT Taki Taimani, DT Jalen Redmond, and S Jay Ward.
- RB DeWayne McBride
- WR Lucky Jackson
- WR Jeshaun Jones
- TE Sammis Reyes (IPP)
- OT Doug Nester
- OG Tyrese Robinson
- EDGE Andre Carter II
- EDGE Bo Richter
- DT Jaquelin Roy
- ILB Dallas Gant
- CB Jaylin Williams
- S Bobby McCain
The Vikings will have 17 spots available if they keep Reyes or bring another player who qualifies under the International Pathway Program. It's likely that they bring 4-5 players from other teams onto the practice squad which is something they have done over the past two years.
