This oddsmaker predicts Texas football will run the table, beat Georgia, finish regular season 12-0
ESPN’s Matchup Predictor has Texas with a 90% edge in six games and heavy leans against Arkansas, Texas A&M
The Texas Longhorns have heard about the big, bad Southeastern Conference for years now in the buildup to joining the nation’s premier college athletic conference.
Now that the Horns have arrived, some in the SEC think they’ve got it too easy.
Each day this week, SEC fans have called into Paul Finebaum’s ESPN afternoon show to give kudos to the Longhorns, but they’re also frustrated. How could the SEC office give Texas such an easy schedule, Paul? Looks like Texas is going to have an easy ride to the SEC title game, allegedly.
So how does the rest of Texas’ schedule look to oddsmakers? According to ESPN’s Matchup Predictor, maybe Finebaum’s callers have it right. Perhaps the SEC isn’t as scary as Texas fans once thought.
The Longhorns are 90% favorites to win six of their remaining 10 regular-season games, according to ESPN’s predictions. That includes 98.8% odds of knocking off UTSA (1-1) this week at Royal-Memorial Stadium and a 99% chance of beating Louisiana-Monroe next weekend.
The annual Texas-Oklahoma grudge match is always a 50-50 proposition at best. Not so this year, according to the Matchup Predictor. Texas has 84.6% odds of winning in the Cotton Bowl.
The Oct. 19 game against No. 1 Georgia is the only real problem area, if these predictions are any indication. Texas has a 59.5% chance of beating Georgia, which means it’ll be a close, dynamite matchup. It’s possible the Longhorns and Bulldogs play three times — the regular season, the SEC title game and the College Football Playoffs.
Where to watch, stream, and listen to Texas vs. UTSA Week 3 college football game
UTSA coach Jeff Traylor built his reputation as a tough-as-nails high school coach at Gilmer and was an energetic force as the special teams coach at Texas. But Traylor himself sounded like he needed a pick-me-up early this week after a 49-10 loss to Texas State. Things don’t get any easier for the Roadrunners (1-1) […]
After the Georgia game, Texas may cruise to the finish, again that’s if you believe these predictions. ESPN has Texas has a 92.4% winner over Vanderbilt, 95.8% winner over Florida, 84.4% over Arkansas and 96% over Kentucky.
The Lone Star Showdown could be one-sided. Texas is an 84.7% winner over Texas A&M at Kyle Field.
To have ESPN tell it, the Longhorns should be oddsmakers’ favorite to run the table during the regular season. That’s quite a tall ask for a team in its rookie year in SEC play. But it’s not out of the realm of possibility.
Some friendly advice for Texas fans and the Longhorns themselves, best to take things one game at a time.
