The Cincinnati Bengals are about to kick off the 2024 NFL regular season. First, we must acknowledge those who won't play in today's matchup against the New England Patriots.

Here are the Bengals' Week 1 inactives

  • WR Tee Higgins
  • DT Kris Jenkins Jr.
  • ED Cedric Johnson
  • TE Tanner McLachlan
  • OT Amarius Mims
  • WE Kendric Pryor

Jenkins (thumb) and Mims (pectoral) were officially declared out on Friday's injury report. Jenkins ended up having surgery for his thumb but could play next week. Mims returned to practice this week on Wednesday and Thursday but didn't practice Friday.

Higgins (hamstring) was listed as doubtful after tweaking his hamstring on Thursday. He's dealt with hamstring injuries before, so this wasn't too promising to here.

Ja'Marr Chase is officially active

Notably, wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase isn't listed above as he is active. Chase was listed as questionable on Friday after speaking to reporters for the first time since his contract hold-in. Reports surfaced this morning that Cincinnati failed to reach a contract extension with him.

The team then listed him with an illness on Saturday. Reports from earlier this morning indicated that he felt better as the day went on. He went through his usual pregame routine prior to kickoff.

Chase may be active, but playing the entire game isn't likely. The 24-year old, who was seeking a long-term contract extension over the past several weeks, told reporters Friday that he'll likely be limited. He also said he has about "40 or 50" plays in him this week.

The club elevated Pryor from the practice squad in case Chase couldn't go, but with Uno ready to play, Pryor won't dress.
