NASHVILLE – Tennessee Titans rookie cornerback Jarvis Brownlee Jr. looks to be next in line for a starting job with the latest injury news regarding CB Chidobe Awuzie.

Titans head coach Brian Callahan informed the media on Monday afternoon that Awuzie would miss some time with a groin injury. The exact timeline for Awuzie's return is not known, but Tennessee is expected to place the veteran cornerback on Injured Reserve, which will keep him out until at least Week 9.

That means it's next man up for Tennessee's secondary and Brownlee is the guy they are turning to.

"Jarvis. Jarvis has to come. Jarvis has got to play a little bit as he got hurt. But yeah, Jarvis will be the one filling in for him," said Callahan when asked who will be stepping up in Awuzie's place. "We'll obviously have to elevate a DB, probably Tre Avery will get moved up. So, we'll see. There's a couple of different ways and to see how that's going to shake out. But yeah, we're going to have to have guys step up."

Brownlee has played 59 defensive snaps through three weeks. In those snaps, he has recorded six tackles and two tackles for loss. He has allowed three catches for 31 yards.

After Brownlee, Darrell Baker is the next cornerback on the depth chart. Baker has played 16 defensive snaps against the Packers on Sunday. He has three special teams tackles on the season.

The Titans cannot afford to downgrade at the cornerback position right now. It's one of the only position groups on the roster that has been playing up to par, so it is essential that Brownlee fill in for Awuzie as best as he can.

Brownlee's first NFL start will presumably come on Monday Night Football against the Miami Dolphins as the Titans hunt for their first win of the season.
