Things are on the right track for the Cleveland Browns following an 18-13 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 2. However, one concern continues to stick around with the team.
Injuries. The Browns were all too familiar with injuries last season and this season is not off to the best of starts. Cleveland already has five players on the Injured Reserve and that number could grow.
Wide receiver David Bell was playing well against the Jaguars with three catches for 27 yards in nine total snaps. Then, the third-year wideout was tackled awkwardly and displaced his hip. Bell was the only player carted off in the game and now it appears that he could be missing some time. Kevin Stefanski confirmed on Monday that Bell would need surgery.
Following the game, Stefanski revealed that defensive end Ogbo Okoronkwo had to exit for a head injury, and he was eventually cleared. Cornerback Martin Emerson Jr. tweaked his ankle but was able to return.
During the game, it was easy to see that Myles Garrett was not himself at all times. Garrett hurt his foot against the Cowboys and it is still bothering him. The star pass rusher had a sack and forced fumble against Jacksonville, but admitted after the game that it did not feel great out there.
“Didn’t feel great,” Garrett said. “Been battling it and there were some ups and downs with it. Sometimes it felt a little bit better, sometimes it felt a bit worse, but it’s part of the game.”
Still, Garrett plans to buckle down and not allow the pain to keep him off of the field. Past the injuries in this game, the Browns are faced with the fact that they already need to get healthy.
Cornerback Denzel Ward played just 11 snaps against the Jaguars due to a shoulder injury that had him on a pitch count.
When Cleveland gets Nick Chubb back, things will be better for the offense overall. They could use David Njoku, Jack Conklin, Jedrick Wills Jr., Juan Thornhill, and Maurice Hurst back as soon as possible.
Injuries happen for every team and you have to deal with it as it comes. For the Browns, it is coming at a pretty high rate early on.
