The Tennessee Vols improved to 4-0 via their 25-15 win against the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday night.
Tennessee's win against the Sooners is arguably the Vols' biggest road win since Josh Heupel took over as the program's head coach in early 2021.
Before beating Oklahoma on Saturday night in Norman, the Vols had consistently struggled to win primetime games at night in raucous environments.
The win against Oklahoma in a rowdy atmosphere shows that Tennessee is continuing to make improvements under Heupel's leadership.
As a result of the win in Norman, 247Sports thinks the Vols will climb to No. 5 in the new AP Top 25 poll when it's released later on Sunday.
From 247Sports: Tennessee posted one of its most impressive defensive showings under Josh Heupel, squashing previously-unbeaten Oklahoma on the road in the SEC's biggest matchup of Week 4. Nico Iamaleava's 66-yard touchdown strike to D'onte Thornton in the first quarter was the only scoring toss of the contest for the Vols, who had a vice grip on the game's tempo throughout until late in the fourth quarter, forced three turnovers and held the Sooners to under 300 yards of total offense. It took 19 quarters for Tennessee to give up a touchdown this season before the Sooners pushed two across down the stretch.
Tennessee was previously ranked No. 6, which means 247Sports thinks the Vols will leap frog the Ole Miss Rebels (Ole Miss beat Georgia Southern 52-13 this weekend).
The last time the Vols were ranked in the top 5 was in 2022 before their loss against South Carolina.
The Tennessee Vols had one of the coolest ways ever to celebrate beating the Oklahoma Sooners
Pretty awesome if you’re a Vols fan
