At this point in the season, the Chicago Bears (3-11) are what their record says they are. Although the Bears let success slip through their fingers in 2022, one opposing Pro Bowler believes the future is bright in Chicago.
The Bears fell victim to the Philadelphia Eagles (13-1) on Sunday by the score of 25-20. If any team knows what winning should look like it’s the Eagles.
That’s why four-time Pro Bowler Darius Slay’s words should carry some weight for Bears fans. After the game, Slay, who spent seven seasons in the NFC north with the Detroit Lions, offered some optimism for Chicago’s future.
"Chicago got a lot of upside coming from (Justin Fields). They're gonna have a great future with him. He's a highlight film, for real man," Slay stated.
"I salute my cap off to him and it's hard for a quarterback to be that tough."
Fields is obviously the centerpiece for Chicago’s future. In the loss, Fields still found a way to make history, becoming the third quarterback in NFL history to reach 1,000 rushing yards in a single season.
Keep in mind, Fields has been able to make something out of nothing all season long. With little protection from his offensive line and a cast of misfits at wide receiver, Fields’ growth in his second season as a starter has been nothing short of tremendous.
Slay has made a habit out of making quarterbacks look foolish throughout his 10-year career. But what he sees in Fields should inspire hope amongst a starving fanbase ready to turn the page to the off-season.
