Dallas Cowboys fans have largely been focused on two different things at this point in the 2020 NFL regular season: one side is on Team Tank and is hoping for as good of a draft pick as possible, while the other side is wanting the Cowboys to grab the NFC East crown for the third time in five years.

After the Cowboys' 41 to 33 victory over the 49ers on Sunday in AT&T Stadium, the portion of the fan base that is still holding out hope for a division title has to be feeling pretty good. Especially since every other team in the division lost on Sunday, putting the 5-8 Cowboys at second place in the NFC East.

Even though the Dallas Cowboys did move up to second place in the division, they need some help to have a viable chance to make the postseason.

First off, Dallas needs to close out the regular season on a four-game winning streak. They are half way there with victories over the Cincinnati Bengals and San Francisco 49ers, but the Jalen Hurts-led Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Giants still loom on the schedule.

Additionally, the Washington Football has to drop at least one of their next two games to create an opening for the Cowboys to grab the NFC East title. Washington, currently 6-8 on the season, sit in first place with games against the Carolina Panthers and the Eagles remaining.

It is not out of the realm of possibility for the Cowboys to win out and for the Football Team to drop a game to the Panthers or Eagles, but the odds are still in favor of Washington coming out on top and winning the division for the first time since 2015.

Cowboys dropped in draft order after win on Sunday.

The Cowboys were on track to a top-5 draft pick in the 2021 NFL Draft heading into the week, even after beating the Bengals last week. The odds of Dallas picking at the top of the draft improved after the Los Angeles Chargers defeated the Las Vegas Raiders in overtime on Thursday night.

Sunday's victory over the 49ers has given the team a better chance to win the division, but it has also hurt their draft slot. As it sits right now, the Cowboys would be picking much closer to 10th overall rather than fourth overall, where they were sitting before beating the 'Niners.

Carolina and the Atlanta Falcons jumped up into the top-5, but the more significant takeaway from that image is that the Eagles are currently slotted to draft just ahead of the Cowboys.

Philadelphia has played very well, especially on the offensive side, since handing the keys to Jalen Hurts, but the team still sits with a 4-9-1 record. The last thing that the Cowboys would want to have happen is for the Eagles to be able to draft a player that is high up on Dallas' board (kind of like what the Cowboys did in this past draft by drafting CeeDee Lamb).

Nonetheless, the overall takeaway is that the Cowboys are still in the thick of things in the NFC East title race, while also are still projected to pick in the top-10. Things could be worse.
