The Chicago Bears are set to receive a major boost for Saturday’s contest against the Buffalo Bills. On Friday, the Bears activated running back Khalil Herbert from Injured Reserve.

Herbert made his return to practice this week after a hip injury, suffered in Week 10 against the Detroit Lions, sidelined him for the team’s last four games.

At the time of the injury, Herbert was on pace for a 1,000-yard season on the ground. His combination of shiftiness and speed contributed to 643 rushing yards and four touchdowns through the team’s first 10 games.

His role in the Bears’ offense was steadily increasing each week, though, in Herbert’s absence, David Montgomery has reclaimed his status as Chicago’s lead back.

Though the Bears aren’t left with anything to play for, Herbert’s availability allows for offensive coordinator Luke Getsy to get creative late in the season. It’s important for the Bears to evaluate the offense with its key players in place.

Chicago is faced with a tall task hosting Buffalo on Christmas Eve, but Herbert’s return could give the Bills’ defense fits in the cold and blustery conditions expected at Soldier Field.
