The Minnesota Vikings (10-3) are getting ready to take on the Indianapolis Colts (4-8-1) with the ability to clinch the NFC North with a win.
Heading into the matchup, the majority of the focus is on WR Justin Jefferson and his record-setting, and then some, season. His 11 catches for 223 yards last week put him on a realistic path to secure the single-season receiving yards record.
However, in this game, expect RB Dalvin Cook to be the focal point of the offense. While he only has two games this year rushing over 100 yards, expect Dalvin and the Vikings to Cook.
On the year, the Colts are 12th in rush defense (1,640 yards) and sixth in rushing touchdowns allowed.
In fact, on the year the Colts have allowed 100+ yards on the ground seven times. Four times in a row from weeks 4-7 and are in the middle of allowing three games in a row currently. Two games having allowed over 200 yards rushing.
While this season Cook is averaging his least yards per carry of his career, in many cases due to offensive line instability, he is still on pace to finish with his second-most rushing yards in a season.
Cook actually passed Bill Brown last week to become the franchises fourth all-time leading rusher. Not even with his sixth season completed. A 188-yard performance today would put him third in Minnesota Vikings history.
The stars are aligning for Cook and the Vikings to run all over the Colts defense. If there is ever a time to do it, a day in which the Vikings can secure the division would be ideal.
