There hasn’t been a shortage in storylines stemming from the Minnesota Vikings’ historic 33-point come-from-behind victory over the Indianapolis Colts. After all, Hollywood couldn’t write a better script for what Vikings fans saw play out over the weekend.

By now, the football world has heard all of the unbelievable stories related to the Vikings orchestrating this legendary comeback win. The hair on Vikings fans' arms has been standing up for nearly 48 hours.

Perhaps the coolest story from the win comes from somebody who had no involvement in the game whatsoever.

Passing The Torch

Kirk Cousins revealed to Peter King that he received a powerful text message from former Colts coach Frank Reich after the game. Ironically, it was Reich who previously held the record for the NFL’s greatest comeback.

“Frank texted me to say, ‘Kirk for 30 years, that moment has given me an opportunity to share many things about football and life, tell people about my faith, and now the torch has been passed to you.’ So, it was a powerful text. I already had a great deal of respect for Frank but after that text it went through the roof. I took what he said seriously,” Cousins said.

Reich quarterbacked the Buffalo Bills to an improbable 41-38 win over the Houston Texans in the 1992 AFC wild-card round. Reich rallied the Bills back from a 35-3 deficit in what fans in Buffalo refer to as “The Comeback.”

Ironically, it was Reich’s successor, Colts interim head coach Jeff Saturday, who was at the helm of the most embarrassing loss in NFL history.

As difficult as it might be, the Vikings must now turn the page to Sunday’s home matchup with the New York Giants. Minnesota hopes to carry momentum from the win into Sunday’s matchup so that a historic comeback won’t be necessary for the second consecutive week.
