The Dallas Cowboys seemed all but doomed against the Texans late in the fourth quarter on Sunday. Trailing 23-20, Dak Prescott threw an interpretation deep in the Cowboys' territory, setting up 1st and Goal for the Texans with just under six minutes left.

Houston got to the one-yard line after two plays. A touchdown that seemed like a foregone conclusion for the Texans turned upside down thanks to the Cowboys' defense dominating one area, the line of scrimmage.

On third down, defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence fired out of his stance, split two offensive linemen, and stops Texans' running back Rex Burkhead for a two-yard loss. On fourth down, defensive tackle Neville Gallimore does an excellent job of keeping his head up after an attempt to take out his legs, pursues down the line, and helps linebacker Anthony Barr stuff quarterback Jeff Driskel at the two.

The Cowboys would take this momentum to the offensive side of the ball. Prescott, thanks to completing six of his seven passes for 79 yards, helped engineer a game-winning 98-yard drive that was capped off by an Ezekiel Elliott touchdown run.

It may not be what gets the highlights most of the time but the trenches are where games in the NFL are won and lost. The Cowboys' defense put on their big boy pants when their backs were to the wall, and a 10th victory resulted from it.
