It's not hyperbole to suggest that the divisional round playoff game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night was one of the greatest NFL games of all time.
Kansas City ultimately prevailed in overtime — winning 42-36 after Travis Kelce's game-winning touchdown catch.
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen had a splendid game, throwing for 329 yards and four touchdowns. Allen didn't lose the game — Patrick Mahomes won the game. The Chiefs were fortunate to get the first possession in overtime, allowing Mahomes to end one of the most thrilling games I've ever seen.
Immediately after the game, in the midst of the Chiefs' celebration, Mahomes took off running across the field to find Allen.
Mahomes, who passed for 378 yards and three touchdowns, was obviously excited to win. He's a fierce competitor who leaves it all on the field. But he also respects the game. And he respects Allen.
This is going to be a fun rivalry for years to come. It's great to see the mutual respect between these two elite quarterbacks.
I'm sure Allen will win a few against Mahomes along the way.
But for now, it's all about Mahomes and the Chiefs.
