There aren't many jokes that haven't been made about the Jeremy Pruitt era with the Tennessee Vols. The football program was a disaster under his leadership, to put it plainly. The team's record was not abysmal, but the behind-the-scenes was a different story. One "statistic" is easily the most comical concerning Pruitt's tenure with the Vols.
You read that correctly. Pruitt and the Tennessee Vols program are facing more violations than total wins they had under him as head coach. The nineteen losses may be overlooked here as the allegations loom the heaviest.
Now, there are absolutely people that thought Pruitt was going to be a grand hire for the Vols. He had ties with Nick Saban and a long, strong track record in college football. Paul Finebaum even believed that Phillip Fulmer had saved the program with the hire.
We now know that was not the case. Not even close. Current Vols HC Josh Heupel has inspired much more belief in the Vols in his short time with the program. The recruiting, on-field performance, and overall vibe of the team are much different. It is a good different for Tennessee, and they seem to be on a much better track.
The Pruitt era with the Vols is one to forget, but Tennessee fans believe Heupel and co. may be able to make them forget about it in the coming years. These allegations will make that just a bit harder, though.
