Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin.
That's right. Johnson, who played for the Trojans from 1994-1995, said this week on ESPN that if Kiffin's Rebels manage to upset Alabama this weekend, then Kiffin should be one of USC's top targets to replace Helton.
Kiffin coached at USC from 2010-2013. His tenure as the Trojans' head coach was famous for his decision to bolt Tennessee after just one season to take the job, and later for getting fired on the tarmac after losing to Arizona State.
My first thought is that there's no way this would be a possibility.
But when it comes to Kiffin, you never know.
I think Kiffin has matured since his USC days, which makes me think he probably wouldn't leave Ole Miss for USC (the only job I think Kiffin leaves Ole Miss for right now would be an NFL job….unless Alabama suddenly comes open).
However, there's always the possibility that Kiffin could want a second chance at USC. After all, that was his dream job and he was fired from there. If USC came calling again, could he say no?
It's a wild scenario that I doubt happens, but until USC hires a head coach, it's a possibility that will be mentioned by national talking heads.
