The NBA regular season for the Dallas Mavericks begins this evening @ 6:30 PM at State Farm Arena against the Atlanta Hawks.
Preseason gave fans a good indication of how good the team can be on both ends of the floor.
The 2021-2022 season has a fun, exciting feeling to it as the Mavericks will be a team to watch out for in the Western Conference.
Let's discuss three ways how the Mavs can pull out a victory against the Hawks.
Luka Takes Over the Arena
Everyone's first thought will be to get the ball in Luka Doncic's hands as much as possible to lead the offense.
Jason Kidd did not rest Doncic in the last preseason game just for the fun of it, he wants his superstar player ready for an 82-game season.
After his MVP-like season last year, you can only imagine the impact he will have now that he has a coach who will allow him to play at his full potential.
Kidd and his staff will have a plan to put Doncic in the best scoring positions on the floor.
If it works, then you will see another triple-double performance.
Kristaps Porzingis steps up as the 2nd option
During the preseason, Kristaps Porzingis looked very comfortable and smooth while he was on the court.
It was honestly refreshing to see how well he was shooting the ball and scoring around the rim. This was probably the best he has looked since being a Maverick.
We know Luka will be the focal point on offense, but Porzingis can be the guy to take advantage of opportunities on the wing and perimeter.
The Hawks have a good offense that can score from anywhere on the court with Trae Young in the lineup, so Porzingis will need to the x-factor if Dallas has any chance at pulling out a win.
Great contribution from the bench
This will probably come out to be the most important factor as the game comes close to the 4th quarter.
We know the three best players on the team are Donic, Porzingis, and Tim Hardaway Jr, but when those guys need a breather the second-teamers will have to keep up the flow of the game.
Role players such as Jalen Brunson and Reggie Bullock showed in preseason their value off of the bench as they had double-digit scoring performances.
Brunson has been a fan favorite and he knows his role which he does on a consistent level.
Kidd seems to know what he does well and allow him to be the floor general when he comes in the lineup.
If the Mavericks can do have all three of these key factors happen in tonight's game, then there will be no reason as to why they do not come out victorious.
