The days are ticking down until the Dallas Cowboys have to make a decision regarding Dak Prescott. Dallas would be smart to secure their franchise signal caller, but the two sides have yet to come to terms on a deal to this point.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Monday that it seems likely that the NFL will push back the franchise tag deadline. That is because there has not been an official salary number released yet. That would theoretically give the Cowboys more time to work out a deal with Prescott and his agent, Todd France.

The expectation is that the Cowboys will place the tag on Prescott — even if it is just a placeholder to prevent Prescott from hitting the free agent market. Losing Prescott for nothing would be a devastating blow, so Dallas will assuredly not allow that to happen this offseason.

Ian Rapoport reported an update on Prescott and the Cowboys

This time of the year is busy for those around the NFL, including the media. Rapoport reported more news on Monday, this time regarding the Dallas Cowboys.

According to Rapoport, there is "some positivity" surrounding the Dak Prescott and Dallas Cowboys contract negations, even if a deal does not get completed before the tag deadline. Rapoport added that this positivity is something that wasn't around last offseason.

"The Cowboys will use the tag if they cannot get a long-term deal done with Dak Prescott. He's going to be quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys next year. Whether they do a deal by tomorrow, whether they get a deal by July 15th, he's going to be the quarterback.

"But, it does seem like the next couple of a days are going to be fascinating. Based on the conversations that I've had, there is some positivity here regrading the Dak Prescott talks that really didn't seem there last year.

"It seems like there is at least a chance that something gets done. Before Tuesday might be a stretch. That might be a little fast. They may have to tag him and continue to work on it. But, there at least is a possibility that they get something done.

"If you're the Cowboys and you're Dak Prescott, you're talking big numbers, you're talking long-term security. But he's a franchise quarterback, and he's their franchise quarterback, so it might be worth it for the Cowboys to get it done now rather than letting it linger for another offseason."

That is much more positive news than what we have heard concerning the two parties in quite some time. It does appear that both parties want this to work, but there has to be some kind of compromise from both parties. Whether that is in terms of dollars, years, or anything else.

For now though, we continue to wait. Here's hoping that something does get done sooner rather than later for Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys.
