Death. Taxes. Tennessee Vols baseball setting SEC records in 2022.
The Volunteers are off to an unbelievable start to the season, and there are no signs that they will let up anytime soon. On Friday night, they got off to a slow start against Missouri. Like many of the top teams in past seasons, there never really seems to be any panic inside the team or fan base, though. Even if the Vols get out to an early deficit, they're never out of a game.
Setting More SEC Records
After sweeping Mizzou, they are off to the best start to conference play in SEC history.
Especially in the SEC, a start like this to conference play is insane. The conference may not be as strong as projected to start the year, but it is still the SEC. Not dropping a game in your first four series is an unflappable feat. The Vols still lead the league in almost every meaningful hitting and pitching statistic, too. There just aren't any weaknesses with this team right now.
Looking ahead, they'll play a solid Tennessee Tech team in the midweek. Then, they'll begin a series with Alabama this weekend. Bama is fresh off of a sweep of Ole Miss, who was ranked in the top 15 entering last weekend. The Vols will need to come in prepared because the Crimson Tide have been exceeding expectations to start conference play. They've slid up into the top 25, and their bats have needed a fire extinguisher over the past few weeks.
Tennessee is in the driver's seat of the SEC and the entire nation. The Vols could lock up the regular-season conference title within the next 2-3 weekends if they continue this level of play.
The deserved hype continues for the Vols on the diamond.
