The Buffalo Bills (5-1) managed to garner even more respect around the NFL while sitting at home in Week 7.
Everyone knows the Bills are a legitimate Super Bowl contender. The betting market reflects that as the Bills are currently favored to win the Lombardi Trophy at +275 odds, per BetMGM.
While Buffalo is in a class of their own as it is, the rest of the league got a much better idea of just how good this team truly is.
The Bills’ 24-20 win over the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 6 was important for many reasons. Buffalo exacted its 2021 postseason revenge and secured a head-to-head tiebreaker for the AFC’s No. 1 seed in doing so.
But, to everyone else, the Chiefs are the second-most dangerous team in football. On Sunday, Kansas City (5-2) dominated the San Francisco 49ers (3-4) on the road by the score of 44-23. Although San Francisco’s record might not reflect it, they are widely considered to be one of the top dogs in the NFC.
For the Chiefs to tear the 49ers apart on both sides of the football helps put the Bills’ win over Kansas City in the proper perspective.
San Francisco has one of the best defenses in the NFL and Kansas City still put up 44 points. Buffalo allowed just 20 points to Patrick Mahomes' offense. There is certainly a case to be made for the Bills being the best defense in the sport.
If Kansas City can make one of the NFC’s contenders look like that, then Buffalo is on a completely different planet at this point in the season.
For those still hesitant to jump on Buffalo’s bandwagon, there will be plenty of time left to do so.
The Bills’ next opportunity to make a statement to the rest of the NFL comes on Sunday Night Football in Week 8 as they are set to host a struggling Green Bay Packers team.
