The Dallas Cowboys have made a notable roster move ahead of Monday night's game against the New York Giants. A decision that is already being met with pushback before the rivalry matchup.

Veteran offensive tackle Jason Peters will be in uniform for the Cowboys against the Giants. Peters was signed just before the start of the regular season. Now, he is set to make his debut.

Peters, of course, is no stranger to the NFC East. He put together an NFL Hall of Fame caliber career with the Philadelphia Eagles. Now with the Cowboys, Peters will be playing a new position.

Jason Peters is one of the best offensive tackles of his era. He has played just a handful of snaps at guard during his highly successful NFL career. Yet, the Cowboys will experiment with him doing just that in his first game with the team.

A big reason for that is the development of Tyler Smith. Smith has held down the left tackle position in an impressive manner during the first two weeks of his rookie season. While not a finished product, Smith oozes talent ad upside.

It makes sense for the Dallas Cowboys to keep Smith at the blindside spot rather than messing with his progress and development. However, not everybody believes this to be a smart decision.

Cowboys blasted by OL guru

Duke Mayweather is based in Frisco and works with some of the best offensive linemen in the world. He voiced his displeasure with the Cowboys ahead of Monday Night Football for the move to play Peters at guard.

"Gross negligence" speaks volumes of how Mayweather feels about the situation. He obviously believes that the Cowboys are making a dumb move versus the Giants.

Mayweather compared the situation to asking some of the best of all-time to play positions that they don't play. His point is that it makes little sense to not get the most out of Jason Peters.

Furthermore, Brandon Thorn is one of the best offensive line evaluators around. He covers the NFL for Trench Warfare, among other publications, where he breaks down OL play and ranks the best of the best around the league.

Thorn is also of the mind that playing Jason Peters at left tackle is the way to go for the Cowboys. He even laid out what the best version of the Dallas Cowboys' offensive line would look like moving forward.

Nonetheless, the Dallas Cowboys appear to be rolling with Tyler Smith at tackle for the short-term — and possibly the long-term, too. It makes sense given Smith's draft status and how he has played thus far.

Still, it's a risk. A risk that some highly-respected offensive line minds do not agree with.
