The San Francisco 49ers could be without one of their stars for the season opener in Chicago.

Niners tight end George Kittle missed Wednesday’s practice due to a groin injury, leaving his status for Sunday's opener up in the air.

Kittle has been snake bitten by injuries throughout his five-year career.

The three-time Pro Bowler has missed 11 games in the past two seasons, and has just one season under his belt in which he was able to suit up for every game.

Though nothing is official yet, the Bears' defense could have one less pass catcher to worry about on Sunday.

The team brought in Dane Cruikshank, who was dubbed the "tight end eraser" in his sting with the Titans, over the offseason. Without Kittle to keep in check his workload becomes much lighter.

Don’t get me wrong, the 49ers still have plenty of weapons in Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk. and Elijah Mitchell.

However, if Kittle can’t give it a go that will make life tough on QB Trey Lance, who will be making his third career start under center.
