The Tennessee Volunteers (24-3, 12-2) were defeated by the LSU Tigers (22-5, 12-2) on the road in overtime, 82-80.

It was apparent from the beginning of the game that it would be a tough, physical contest. LSU's Naz Reid and UT's Kyle Alexander opened up the game with back to back offensive fouls.

It seemed like LSU, whose top scorer was inactive, would be inefficient on offense after getting into foul trouble. However, they still found a way to score and led Tennessee towards the end of the first half.

Despite the Vols' willingness to take contested shots and unwillingness to find the open man, they still led LSU 36-31 going into halftime.

A big performance from Admiral Schofield (27 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist) throughout the game helped the Vols keep a small lead for the better part of the second half. Tennessee led 58-53 with just under eight minutes left to play.

LSU tied the game nearing the end of regulation, but a clutch rebound by Schofield provided the Vols with a chance to win the game.

However, the Vols failed to score and the game went into overtime.

Overtime was a back and forth brawl between the two SEC teams. An ill-advised three point attempt and a foul gave LSU a chance to score the final points and beat the Vols.

With LSU's win, there is now a three-way tie in the SEC between LSU, Kentucky, and Tennessee for the lead.
