Dallas, TX – The Dallas Mavericks bench showed up and was the bright spot in their win over the Miami Heat.
One player in particular who was lights out was Power Forward Maxi Kleber.
After Saturday's poor shooting by the bench, Kleber reminded everyone to R-E-L-A-X.
As a result, he posted season-highs of 19 points and five blocks to give the bench a huge spark.
Because of his performance, the Mavs were able to steal a win in Miami as they head to New Orleans on Thursday.
Furthermore, here are two ways that Kleber can build off of his breakout night.
Finding soft spots out on the perimeter
Kleber was on a roll as he shot 50 percent from the field and 3-8 (37%) from the three-point range.
The Mavs sorely needed someone other than Luka Doncic to step up and take over a game or two.
Kleber is not your typical scorer, however, he will show glimpses of highlights much like he did tonight.
In other words, breakouts are huge not only for the team but for the individual's confidence.
Kleber spoke in his post-game interview about what contributed to his performance in the 107-99 win.
The one constant has been numerous players stepping up on any given night and growing chemistry with each other.
Kleber is one of the Maverick's best shooters and if he can show more consistency, they will be hard to beat.
More aggression on defense
The story of Kleber's night his career-high five blocks, which helped secure a Mavs win.
As we all know, defense is not his specialty but he showed improvement by denying every man at the rim.
Porzingis became the Mavericks' defensive specialist for defending the paint, however Kleber was the enforcer.
Most importantly, it will be interesting to see how Kleber can have similar performances for the remainder of the season.
Only time will tell as there will be more game nights to see him put on a display alongside Doncic.
In conclusion, Kleber can make the Mavs a better all-around team to compete if he remains consistent off of the bench.
