Free-agent defensive back Tyrann Mathieu almost certainly won't be returning to the Kansas City Chiefs in 2022.
Mathieu, who played for the Chiefs from 2019 to 2021, was replaced this offseason by Justin Reid. The Honey Badger is still looking for a new deal from a team. And that deal won't be with Kansas City.
The former LSU standout, however, still has plenty of love for Kansas City and the Kansas Jayhawks basketball team.
Mathieu tweeted support for the Jayhawks on Sunday and said "it's always love" when it comes to KC.
Kansas won their Final Four matchup on Saturday against Villanova. They'll take on the North Carolina Tar Heels on Monday night in New Orleans in the national championship game. North Carolina beat the Duke Blue Devils in the Final Four on Saturday night.
Mathieu may be moving on from Kansas City, but he still cares deeply about the city and the surrounding area.
It's going to be strange seeing Mathieu putting on a different uniform next season, but that's the business side of the NFL. It just didn't make financial sense for the Chiefs to bring Mathieu back in 2022.
