The Dallas Cowboys added some offensive firepower in the third-round of the 2022 NFL Draft. After losing both Amari Cooper and Cedrick Wilson this offseason, adding a receiver was critical.

Jalen Tolbert, the pass catcher out of South Alabama, is a potential day-one contributor in Dallas. The Cowboys grabbed the receiver with the No. 88 selection in the draft. It was the first of the Cowboys' picks that did not address the line of scrimmage.

Tolbert has an opportunity to carve out an important role as a rookie with the Cowboys. His ability to play all over the offense is an attractive element for a Cowboys offense that is looking to be more explosive.

Head coach Mike McCarthy and offensive coordinator Kellen Moore had a big say in the third-round pick. Wide receivers coach Robert Prince also had influence in adding Tolbert. With that said, they were not the only influential people in the building that played a role in the selection coming to fruition.

Dak Prescott was involved in the draft process.

Jalen Tolbert revealed that he spoke with Dak Prescott leading up to the draft. The South Alabama product was surprised to hear from the star signal caller, and the two discussed a variety of topics over the phone.

Tolbert called the moment "surreal". Prescott and the newest Cowboys receiver connected quickly, which led to Tolbert believing that he would eventually be headed to Dallas.

"We talked about my previous relationships with my quarterbacks. We talked about my strengths on and off the field," Tolbert told the media. "Dak was asking me if he could put me at X by myself on 3×1 or if I could go to the slot in between CeeDee and Michael. All of it."

It is not often that you see players actively call potential draft selections. However, Prescott obviously felt it was important for him to get involved. With a need at receiver, that makes sense.

Dallas needed to add a weapon through the draft. As the No. 56 overall prospect in Dane Brugler's rankings, Tolbert certainly qualifies.

Dak Prescott and Jalen Tolbert have seemingly hit it off. Quarterback and wide receiver chemistry is so important for on-field success. Prescott is certainly aware of that.

The talented pass catcher accumulated 3,140 yards and 22 touchdowns during his collegiate career. Now, the two have a chance to connect for big numbers with the Dallas Cowboys.
