Second-year Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields saw a significant amount of action in the preseason finale on Saturday night against the Cleveland Browns.
Fields completed 14-of-16 passes for 156 yards and three touchdowns in the Bears' 21-20 win.
The former Ohio State quarterback looked like a future franchise quarterback against Cleveland. Fields was efficient and he made use of the whole field. It's as comfortable as I've seen him look in a Bears uniform — which is certainly a good sign that he's adapting well to Luke Getsy's offense.
Fields showed enough against Cleveland to convince former Super Bowl champion and three-time Pro-Bowler Shaun O'Hara, who is an analyst now for NFL Network, that Fields has "all the tools" to be successful in the NFL.
We haven't even come close to seeing the full scope of what Fields can do on the field. He has the ability to wow folks at any time.
Fields hasn't had an ideal start to his career, though that's not his fault. Playing under Matt Nagy as a rookie likely stunted Fields' growth a bit. But so far it looks like the new Bears regime is getting the best out of Fields. This season is almost like year one for the former Buckeye.
There will still be some growing pains along the way this season — the offensive line and the wide receiver group could be better — but I think we're going to see flashes of greatness from Fields in 2022.
