The Chicago Bears could badly use another wide receiver for quarterback Justin Fields.
Chicago let wide receiver Allen Robinson walk in free agency earlier this offseason, leaving Darnell Mooney as Fields' top option in the passing game.
Mooney is a solid player and he has the potential to be a Pro-Bowler. But Fields needs more help. And it doesn't look like the Bears are going to spend much on the free-agent market or make a trade for a top wide receiver (Byron Pringle and Equanimeous St. Brown are Chicago's top options outside of Mooney).
That's why I think the Bears should be hoping that Georgia wide receiver George Pickens falls to them at No. 39.
Pickens has the talent to be a top 15 selection. He's just dealt with some injury issues in college that have caused his stock to fall a bit.
The former five-star recruit proved as a true freshman at Georgia that he can be a dynamic player.
Pickens caught 49 passes for 727 yards and eight touchdowns in 2019. If he can stay healthy, he can be a stud in the NFL. He can also be a perfect fit for Chicago.
New Bears general manager Ryan Poles and new head coach Matt Eberflus want to bring toughness back to Chicago.
Pickens certainly fits the bill.
Who wouldn't want a physical wide receiver like that? Pickens is the total package — he can block, has great ball skills, and is a solid route-runner. I don't think you'll find a better option in the second round (if he falls to the second round).
Pickens fits exactly what the Bears are looking for under Poles and Eberflus. Chicago fans should be crossing their fingers that the former Georgia standout falls to No. 39.
