The Chicago Bears enter Sunday’s Week 4 matchup with the New York Giants with a major question at the kicker position.
After missing practice on Thursday and Friday due to personal issues, it’s beginning to look like the Bears will be without starting K Cairo Santos come game time.
Chicago worked out three kickers late in the week, and are signing Michael Badgley, per his agent Brian McLaughlin.
Badgley spent his first three seasons (2018-2021) with the Los Angeles Chargers. There, he connected on 80 percent of his field goals and drilled a career-long 59-yard field goal.
He bounced around in 2021, playing 12 games with the Colts and one game with the Titans. Badgley finished the season 18-for-22 (81.8 %) after a terrible season debut with Tennessee.
Bears fans know better than anybody that uncertainty at the kicker position can lead to unfortunate results. The hope is that QB Justin Fields and the Bears offense can do its job, that way Badgley’s workload will strictly consist of extra point attempts.
