The Kansas City Chiefs are set to open the NFL season for the second year in a row, and the Denver Broncos are among the teams who could face the top dogs in Week 1.

The Chiefs, who won Super Bowl LVIII, will host the first game of the 2024 season on September 5, as all teams who win the Super Bowl do the following season. And, like every year, the Chiefs play the Broncos at home.

Denver could be a good option for the NFL to kick off the season for many reasons, the first obviously being the division rival aspect. The Broncos and Chiefs have faced off 128 times since 1960, so continuing that AFC West rivalry in primetime would make great television.

There's also a rematch aspect to this rivalry. The Broncos finally beat the Chiefs in October 2023 after losing to them 16 straight times. The Chiefs surely want to get that win back, while the Broncos would love to knock off the defending champions to start their season.

The final underrated aspect to this rivalry is that the Broncos could have a new quarterback under center in 2024. If so, pitting that QB against reigning Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes would be interesting, especially if said QB is a rookie. What better way to throw a new QB to the wolves than by putting him against the Chiefs?
