247Sports recently detailed 11 "rising stars" in college football that are primed for breakout seasons in 2024.

And they included Tennessee Vols quarterback Nico Iamaleava, a rising redshirt freshman, among those 11 players.

Iamaleava will serve as Tennessee's starter in 2024 after making his first career start in the Vols' Citrus Bowl win against Iowa to end the 2023 season.

From 247Sports: The former five-star has a chance to finish in the top tier of players at the position in the SEC. That's saying something considering Quinn Ewers, Carson Beck and Jaxson Dart are all back after banner campaigns for top 10 teams. Iamaleava will get his crack to outshine several highly-regarded quarterbacks this season and based on his talent level and what's returning at receiver for the Vols, he should flex.

This isn't exactly a controversial choice. Iamaleava enters the 2024 season with high expectations after serving in a backup role during the regular season as a true freshman for the Vols in 2023.

Tennessee hasn't been shy about making it known that reaching the College Football Playoff in 2024 is their top goal. For that goal to become a reality, Iamaleava will have to perform at a high level and have a "breakout season" next fall.
