It shouldn't come as a surprise at this point, but the NFL has shafted Pittsburgh Steelers star T.J. Watt yet again:
When you analyze how he lost, things become even more confusing:
Watt Loses Out on DPOY to Myles Garrett
Watt tweeted out "Nothing I'm not used to," well before NFL Honors even started, seemingly letting everyone know how the vote went.
Watt opted to skip the show, taking a walk with his wife instead and saying "Playing hookey" on his IG story.
To be clear, Myles Garrett is one of the best defenders in the league. Anyone with a pair of eyes knows that.
His elite bend and athleticism in a frame that resembles a hulking basketball player is something that defies physics.
But the NFL DPOY award isn't given to the player who best defies scientific laws, it's given to the player who has earned the title of most valuable defender in the league, or at least, it should be.
Instead, the voters opted for a different rationale, because it doesn't matter what stat you used to compare the two, unless you dig into advanced metrics, this race shouldn't have even been close, much less gone in Garrett's favor:
So I don't know what to make of the situation. Garrett doesn't deserve the blame either. He's a terrific player and not the one doing the voting. But it may be time for the NFL to take a long look at their voting process.
