As soon as news broke that the Tennessee Titans were hiring former Cincinnati Bengals coach Brian Callahan, the first thing that came to many people's minds was whether or not Bengals receiver, Tee Higgins, would follow.
Higgins was asked about just that on Thursday and his answer is easily music to Titans fans' ears.
"It would be good, going back home to family and then being able to play for a coach I've already been under," Higgins told The Sick Podcast – Talking Titans. "It would be ideal."
Sure, playing under Callahan again makes Higgins an obvious fit for the Titans, but there's another factor involved, as well.
Higgins is the perfect complement to Titans WR DeAndre Hopkins
Hopkins is coming off a 1,000-yard season and looked really good in 2023 – adding a No. 1 receiver in Higgins would only amplify the passing game's production in 2024.
As long as there is some kind of offensive line on the field. But I digress.
Don't forget about Treylon Burks and Chig Okwonko, either. Both of those guys would benefit from Higgins, as well, but the primary beneficiary would be Hopkins and it's easy to see why.
Higgins would draw attention away from Hopkins and with Burks in the fold, it would allow the Titans to move Hopkins into the slot, where he was more than effective in 2023.
Per Pro Football Focus, only 22.6% of Hopkins 2023 targets came out of the slot, but he managed to catch 21 of the 30 targets for 269-yards and three touchdowns. His 2.72 yards per route run ranked fourth out the 39 eligible receivers with at least 30 slot targets during the regular season – a mark better than names such as Ja'Marr Chase, CeeDee Lamb, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Zay Flowers, and Cooper Kupp, among many others.
The Titans will have the cap space to bring Higgins in, as well. Either way, this could easily work out, when it's all said and done. Especially if Higgins sees it as an ideal situation.
