Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett took home the 2023 AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year award on Thursday.

Garrett anchored Cleveland’s front seven this season. He led the team in a multitude of stats, from sacks (14.0) to quarterback hits (30).

Not many offensive tackles had much of an answer for Garrett throughout the season.

Garrett garnered the most vote points (165) for this year’s NFL Defensive Player of the Year award. Overall, he received 23 first-place votes for the honor.

Roquan Smith and Justin Madubuike were the lone Baltimore Ravens players who received at least one vote for the NFL Defensive Player of the Year honor. Smith tallied four third-place votes, while Madubuike logged just one third-place vote.

Smith ranked sixth in the NFL in total tackles with 158. Madubuike, on the other hand, led the NFL’s No. 1 ranked defense in sacks with 13.0.

Kyle Hamilton most notably did not receive a single vote for the award. From dropping back in coverage to helping to stop the run, Hamilton emerged as a do-it-all safety for Baltimore in the 2023 season.
